New Year's Day
Greetings all, Barney here. We are hanging in northwest Austin at the LaHacienda RV Resort. Austin is a cool place. The food is often Tex-Mex we hear from the humans. Everything is made with limes and chiles and tortillas. My mom even had a Mexican martini the other night. I guess it’s sorta like a margarita but has olives.
Texas is a different kind of place and everything is bigger here! The weather is really different from western New York. It can be really chilly first thing in the morning; like in the 30’s. But then a weird thing happens. It just gets warmer and warmer and warmer until we have to talk the humans into opening the windows. And the temperature will get into the 70’s. Amazing! It’s often windy here too but dad says that’s just a front coming through.
We took it easy for the first few days we were here cause we had been doing so much traveling. Got some football in. How about those Miami Dolphins in the playoffs!! Our ears were ringing with our mom and dad yelling at the TV so much. We know they are really happy to see their team doing so well after last year. Mom says she doesn’t expect them to go far into the playoffs but just getting in is great. My brother and I watched the game with them the other day but Cassie retreated to the bedroom where it’s quieter.
Monday the humans took a trip to San Antonio Texas to see the Alamo and the River Walk. Evidently lots of other people had the same idea cause everybody was at the Alamo and the lines to get in were really long. Come to find out it was the night of the Alamo Bowl between Missouri and Northwestern. Most people had on tee shirts with the name of their team. After the Alamo they went over to the River Walk. It’s a really cool shopping and eating place with a river going along in the middle. They had lunch at Boudro’s Texas Bistro and had prickly pear margaritas and guacamole made table side. They really liked that place.

San Antonio River Walk on the day of the Alamo Bowl - despite the crowds, no one fell in the water while we were there.

The Alamo - way too crowded to wait in line today!
